The Multisport Story

Juan Carlos grew up in Guadalajra, Mexico, where he ran track and field in high school. He went on to attend Tulane University where he had a good time, but focused on academics and a busy social life. He went to graduate school at the University of Washington, where he occasionally took a pleasant jog, and got his masters degree.

Fast forward a few years.

Little did he know that watching his future sister-in-law race in the Seattle Danskin Triathlon in 2001 would lead him to where he is today. After watching her race, he decided it looked so cool and exciting that he had to do it. He started training that summer. JC neither knew how to swim when he began training for his first sprint, nor did he own a bike of any kind.

In his first sprint in 2002, he was one of two people without a wetsuit, and barely survived the short swim. But he was hooked and completed a few more sprints that summer. In 2003 JC became interested in racing longer and tried his hand at Olympic distance events. In 2004 he completed his first half-Ironman and realized that the rigors of racing longer were his cup of tea. In 2005 he completed his first Ironman at Couer d’Alene and his second at Florida and knew this was the distance for him.

2006 saw a break in racing, but not from training. His son, Donovan Javier, was born March 30. JC spent the year being a dad.

In 2007 JC decided to see how far he could go in the sport and decided to race in the professional ranks. It was a tough season in the first wave.

2008 brought some great solid build blocks leading up to races and a marked increase in fitness. The engine keeps getting better...
